Emotions rambling from hill to vineyard: Wine Tours among the Roero cru<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Four different itinerary circuits (so that you\ncan park and get back to your car at the end of the excursion) suitable for\ntrekkers, mountain bikers and e-bike fans. Four easy trails to discover the\nregion\u2019s cru<\/em>, the high quality\nvineyards that have transformed Roero, along with Langhe and Monferrato, into a\nWorld Heritage Site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born through\ncollaboration between Consorzio di Tutela\nRoero<\/em> and the Ecomuseo delle Rocche\ndel Roero<\/em>, this is a new tourism project which is intended to support and\nbe paired with the map of the Ecomuseo\u2019s 27 theme trails and the map of the\nRoero Bike Tour. It will therefore be inserted into the spectrum of proposals\naimed at the kind of tourism known as \u201cSlow Tourism\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 trails (easy or\nmedium-easy) to cover by bike or even on foot using a map, a GPX track or audio\nguide with GPS navigation incorporated on app for smartphone \u201cIzi, Travel\u201d. The\nConsorzio del Roero has even created a map of the Menzione Geografiche Aggiuntive <\/em>(subzones: additional geographical\nmentions) or cru<\/em>, as the Barolo and\nBarbaresco areas have done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These 4 trails are\npanoramic paths, among vineyards and farms, reaching the points of greatest\nnatural interest in the landscape, as well as the historic centres with their\nartisan workshops, wine and speciality food retailers, restaurants and hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wine Tour 1, for\nexample, is entirely contained within the district of Canale, coming into\ncontact with celebrated geographical mentions like Renesio, an ancient place\nname that has given rise to the dialect term Arneis. It winds along from the\nmedieval municipal tower to the Convent of the Cuppuccini and the 15th<\/sup>C\nChurch of Madonna di Loreto, ending up at the characteristic Pieve di San\nVittore. The cru encountered along the path include Loreto, Ciriano and\nMompellini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail is\ngentler and more sinuous in Wine Tour 2, which extends between the areas of Castellinaldo,\nCastagnito, Guarene and Vezza d\u2019Alba, immersed in a terrain where the vineyards\ncompete with fruit and hazelnut plantations. Moving through the most clayey\ncru, overlooking the Tanaro valley, including Rocca Cerreto, Serra, San Quirico\nand Trono, the trail then crosses Guarene with its elegant baroque castle, and\nfurther encounters the cru of Montebello and Madernassa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wilder path of\nWine Tour 3 touches the summit of the Rocche del Roero, with its villages of Mont\u00e0,\nSanto Stefano Roero and Monteu Roero. Winding roads, rounded hills and historic\nchestnut groves that culminate in the so-called \u201cgreat chestnut\u201d of Monteu\nRoero, over 400 years old. On these cultivated slopes between sandy ravines the\ncru of Sant\u2019Antonio, Anime Nere and San Michele can be found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A path along the\ncrest which shows to advantage the rare beauty of the vineyard geometry, Wine\nTour 4 passes the Santuario di Mombirone before reaching the Pieve di San\nPietro di Novelle (mentioned historically as early as 901AD) and then Montaldo\nRoero followed by Monteu Roero. The cru encountered\ninclude Sant\u2019Anna, Canton Sandri, Sicurana, Muschiavin and Torre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arneis and nebbiolo are two vine varieties on which Docg are based: they are indigenous grapes, typical of this area, cultivated for centuries and interpreted with great care by the Producers of Roero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CONSORZIO DI TUTELA DEL ROERO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wine producers of Roero were joined in the Roero Producers\u2019 Consortium<\/strong> (Consorzio Tutela Roero), acknowledged with a decree published in the Official Gazette, on the 4th of March 2014, with the objective to perform the functions of protection, advancement, promotion, consumer information and general care of the interests related to the \u201cRoero\u201d Docg<\/strong>.
As evidenced by the archives, the art, the landscape and the architecture of the rural houses, the vine and the wine, on the hills of Roero, have always been the culture, passion and pride of the country folk. So much so that the wine producing landscape<\/strong> of Roero, similar to that of Langhe and Monferrato, has been declared a Unesco World Heritage<\/strong> site in 2014.
Arneis and nebbiolo are the two base grapes of the Docg: native grapes, typical of this territory, cultivated for centuries and interpreted with great care by the Roero producers.
The Roero Docg is divided into two wines: Roero<\/strong>, a red wine based on nebbiolo grapes, and Roero Arneis<\/strong>, a white wine based on grapes of the same name.Today there are more than 300 consortium members made up of producers and growers, and more than 1,000 hectares of Roero Denominazione (Designation) vineyards, with a total of about 6 million bottles produced, of which more than 60% are exported. The Roero Producers\u2019 Consortium benefits from erga omnes<\/em> and, despite the recent constitution, has a membership of more than 50% of wine growers with more then 70% of the Docg production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ECOMUSEO DELLE ROCCHE DEL ROERO<\/strong>

<\/strong>The Ecomuseum of Rocche of Roero<\/strong> was established in 2003 by the Piedmont Region and works to promote and valorize the eight peaks boroughs on the back of the Rocche, a geological erosion phenomenon <\/strong>that cross Roero territory for 40 km.
The Rocche originated about 250,000 years ago, when Tanaro river deviated its course and caused a series of very strong upheavals,incising with deep gorges and picturesque sandy badlands. A delicate ecosystem rich in biodiversity, where humid and dry environments coexist in few hundred meters of altitude.
The Ecomuseum has realized a network of Thematic Trails<\/strong> through Rocche ecosystem, dedicated to hiking, trail running and mountain bike<\/strong>\u2019s lovers that can be freely enjoyed in an outdoor museum along woods and hills of Roero. All the Paths are circular and allow to park the car or the bus, go through the Path and return to the starting point. WineTour 1 \u2013 The cru where the Arneis wine was born<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\n\nIt is an itinerary that winds entirely through the council of Canale and crosses a lot of its most famous cru<\/em>, among which there is the Renesio cru, such as an ancient toponym from which the folksy term \u201cArneis\u201d was originated, that then meant to indicate the Arneis DOCG\u2019s vineyards and wine.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
